Rebuilding and reconstructing ourselves seems to be intrinsic to whatever we refer to as “human nature.”
We get to redesign ourselves as cognitive agents in ways that extend the capabilities of subsequent generations to redesign themselves as agents.
Do we really want to be on a wheel that is always going faster and faster and faster all the time? There could be some affective limits; bio and non-bio bits; cognitive and emotional load balancing yet to be realized, perhaps psychopharmacology steps into play in unexpected ways?
